March 10 – MESHEEN (USA) – Interview With BOBBY TAIT (Drums) and TED HEATH (Vocals)

MESHEEN hails from LA California, and was founded in 1989. This name may not sound familiar to you, but with this interview I want to emphasize the fact that so many excellent bands from that period didn’t get the attention they deserved. Following from my passion for old school US Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music, during the next conversation I will let two musicians have their say, and I am curious how it all went back in the day. Let’s get back to an era that has meant a great deal to me … good ol’ days I will cherish forever!

Stefan: Greetings Bobby and Ted, welcome here to Metal to Infinity webzine Belgium! Your story takes place mainly in the 80s and 90s, how did your musical adventure begin, what were the ambitions as young lads?

Bobby: My first band, when I was 16 years old, was mainly a cover band, but we started writing some originals. By the time I was 19 or 20, the band I was in were writing all original songs. My ambition was to write, record, hopefully get a record deal and tour. Luckily for me, in 1987 I joined Tyton and those things happened!

Now they are happening again with MESHEEN.

Ted: I have been singing since I was a kid. When I was a teenager, I joined a band as a guitar player, then as a bass player. I shared vocals in those bands. When I was 18, a band asked me to be their Lead Vocalist. Since then, I’m primarily a Lead Vocalist, and play guitar on a couple songs.

Stefan: Every musician has their own source or of inspiration, who were those you looked up to at the time?

Bobby: Wow, there are so many. As a drummer, my greatest inspiration was from the progressive bands like Yes, Rush, ELP & Genesis. From just the individual musician stand point, drummers like Neil Peart, Cozy Powel, Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, John Bonham. There are so many I was influenced by I could go on with so many more.
