March 04 – THORIUM – EMPIRES IN THE SUN (Freya Records / Hard Life Promotion) – Review by Stefan

Their previous, self-titled album was received here at Metal To Infinity webzine with much appreciation ! On board three former Ostrogoth members, this album brought us a wonderful and solid form of Heavy Metal music, melodic and technical to the last detail. For a worthy successor, the Corona pandemic made it wait longer than planned but finally these four Belgians, and Dutch frontman made the decision to unleash their second effort “Empires In The Sun” on March 5th. 2021. I have long wondered if the high level of their debut could be matched or even exceeded, it remained an open question to this day. “Empires In The Sun” signs the certificate that for these guys only the sky is the limit, I mean to say that the album is magical good !

Shred guitar wizard Tom Tee has given “Empires In The Sun” a production to fully enjoy, the mixing and mastering can be attributed to Simone Mularoni who we know as guitarist of Italian ProgMetallers DGM, among others. FYI: Since 2011 he’s the founder/owner of his own recording place called Domination Studio located in Florentino, San Marino. British actor Norman Eshley also lent his well-crafted voice to Thorium, serving as narrator. Fans of Blind Guardian’s albums “Nightfall In Middle Earth” and “Twilight Orchestra” will welcome him with open arms while checking out both ‘Winterfall’ and the title track. For the three-part composition ‘1302’, Thorium called on some more very interesting guests but I’ll tell you more about that a bit later on this discussion. The cover artwork looks perfect again, especially on the vinyl edition does this provide an added value. Make notice of the fact “Empires In The Sun” is available in different colors ! READ MORE…
