March 17 – HVALROSS – COLD DARK RAIN (Independent / Hard Life Promotion) – Review by Stefan

With the Dutch foursome of Hvalross I’m somewhat on thin ice, I mean their style of music is not really my favorite direction but at times they surprise me quite nicely with a blossoming mix of both Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and Stoner Rock. In the past, Gerben van Oosterhout – Vocals, Barry Veeke – Guitar, Maarten Vermeulen – Bass and backing vocals and Tristan de Rijk – Drums have played in bands like Lower Lifeforms, Positive Hate, Oker and The Astral Travellers… finally their musical pursuits ran into a dead end in 2004.

After almost four years of inactivity, a unanimous decision was nevertheless made in this sense, regrouping and starting a new band. I think it’s a wise decision after having so much fun with their former bands to join forces again and start something new. Then, in the spring of 2018, the gentlemen started writing new ‘demo’ songs, Hvalross was born to raise hell and played many gigs in Holland and Belgium showcasing their new musical identity to the live audience.
